Furniture Care Guide

Furniture Care Guide
Congratulations on your Chuck’s Furniture purchase!

Your home is about to become even more spectacular, and we want to make sure your new additions remain as beautiful as the day they arrived. This guide is packed with tips and tricks to keep your furniture in top-notch condition and bring you joy for years.

General furniture Care

  • Dusting: Regularly dust your furniture with a soft, lint-free cloth. Dusting not only keeps your furniture looking clean but also prevents the buildup of dirt that can cause scratches.
  • Sunlight exposure: Position your furniture away from direct sunlight to prevent fading and discoloration. Consider using curtains or blinds to filter sunlight during peak hours.

Moving and Placement

  • Lift, don’t drag: When moving furniture, lift it to avoid scratching floors. Use furniture sliders or lift the furniture slightly to place protective pads underneath.
  • Furniture pads: Attach felt or rubber pads to the legs of furniture to prevent scratching on hardwood or tile floors.

Care tips by material

Upholstered Furniture

  • Routine vacuuming: If your upholstery is fabric, vacuum it regularly to remove dust and prevent fibers from matting. For leather upholstery, wipe it with a clean, dry cloth.
  • Immediate stain removal: Attend to spills immediately using a clean, damp cloth. Blot the stain instead of rubbing it, which can spread the stain.
  • Professional cleaning: Consider professional upholstery cleaning every 1-2 years to maintain freshness and extend fabric life.

Wooden Furniture

  • Avoid moisture: Wipe up spills immediately to prevent wood damage. Use coasters or placemats to protect surfaces from heat, moisture, and scratches.
  • Humidity control: Maintain a consistent humidity level in your home, as fluctuations can lead to wood expansion or contraction.
  • Polishing: Use a high-quality furniture polish designed for the specific type of wood finish to nourish and protect the surface. Apply polish with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Leather Furniture

  • Regular dusting: Wipe down leather surfaces with a clean, dry cloth to remove dust. This prevents dirt particles from settling into the pores.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals: Use only approved leather cleaners to clean stains or spills. Avoid harsh chemicals that damage leather.
  • Conditioning: Apply a leather conditioner every six months to keep the material supple and prevent cracking.

Mattress Care

  • Invest in a quality protector: Use a mattress protector to safeguard against spills, stains, and allergens. This will prolong the life of your mattress and keep it hygienic.
  • Use the right foundation: Ensure your mattress is on a supportive and breathable foundation. This could be a box spring, platform bed, or slatted base, depending on the type of mattress and your preferences.
  • Rotate every few months: If your mattress is double-sided, rotate it every few months to ensure even wear. This prevents sagging in specific areas.
  • Flipping: If your mattress is designed to be flipped, do so every few months to distribute the wear evenly.
  • Stain removal: If a spill occurs, blot it immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Avoid using excessive water as it can penetrate the mattress layers. For tougher stains, use a mild detergent mixed with water. Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for cleaning.
